At Marco's 2 week appointment he weighed 9 lbs! I guess my milk and his eating habits are doing just fine. My milk came in when he was 4 days old, and it came in with a vengance; I don't remember aching that much with my other 2 babies. But luckily it regulated within 4 days and I no longer feel like I am packing around 2 rock hard melons.

Unfortunately for Marco, his 2 week appointment was also his circumcision appointment. Bracken's circumsision was not routine and ended with a trip to the ER late at night, so our dear pediatrician was determined that this time around I would have a textbook circ experience with no drama or surprises. I handed over my baby with his blanket and pacifier and waited in our exam room. They offered me the chance to watch the procedure, but I already knew I couldn't do that. I was foolish enough to watch Nathan's circ and it ws very traumatizing for me. So sit in the room and wait, I did. The doctor told me that 60% of babies sleep through their circ, 30% stay awake but remain calm sucking on their pacifier, and 10% freak out the whole time. Well I am proud to say that all 3 of my boys fall in the lucky 10% group of freaker outers. I could hear little Marquito's scream the whole time, and it broke my heart.
When they finally brought him back to me, they gave me the thumbs up for a perfectly executed procedure! It stopped bleeding normally and it looked great. They left me alone with Marco so I could nurse the little guy and comfort him. He nursed for a few minutes and then started freaking out again. I couldn't get him to calm down. I know they numb the babies, but my baby boy was acting like he had just been tortured and felt every last poke and snip. When the nurse came back in to check that on Marco his penis stil looked good with no more bleeding but I mentioned my concern that he wasn't calming down to nurse, especially when he is normally an extremely calm baby. She came back with some infant tylenol, measured out the dosage, and squirted only a third of it into his mouth.
Marco somehow started choking on the medicine, and as luck would have it he choked really bad and the medicine got into his lungs. It took him a good 5 minutes to catch his breath and breathe normally, but then he was super congested and taking rapid and shallow breaths. The nurse aspirated him a couple of times to help clear out all the mucus that appeared out of nowhere and that helped a little bit. His breathing was concerning the doctor so they monitered the oxygen in his blood and his breaths for well over an hour. Our pediatrician felt horrible. I had brought in a perfectly healthy baby and now he was struggling to breathe.

After we had been at the doctors office for 2 hours they decided to send us home since Marco wasn't getting any worse, comforting I know. He just needed to sleep and let his amazing little body work out the solution in his lungs. They made me promise to call later in the evening to give them an update on Marco's situation and then we headed home. Marco slept for 4 solid hours. Amazingly enough, when he woke up his chest and breathing had completely cleared up! His clear and steady deep breaths were music to my ears.
Other than another traumatic circ, everything else is going great. Maro's cord stump fell off on day 15, the morning of his 2 week appointment. Marco has officially outgrown his newborn clothes, and once all the newborn diapers are used up he will be out of those too. He still eats every 3 hours and has one 5-6 hour stretch at night which is lovely for me. Quite often he smiles and giggles in his sleep which I love!So our little Marquito's 2 week mark was touch and go for a bit, but it all worked out in the end. All I have to say is I HATE circumcisions! I don't know when baby #4 will bless our lives, but our pediatrician and I are hoping for a girl so that we don't have to weather another circ.
